Abstract

Objective To detect methylation in p16 gene in whole blood and bronchia rinse of lung cancer, and to explore its significance for early diagnosis in lung cancer. Methods Using a modified semi-nested methylation-specific PCR(MSP),the status of methylation of the p16 was investigated in bronchia rinse and whole blood DNA from 26 1ung cancer patients. Results Methylated p16 gene was found in 34.6%(9/26) of lung cancer and in 88.9%(8/9) whole blood samples, methylated p16 gene promoter in whole blood strongly correlated with tissue of lung cancer. Conclusion The measurement of methylated p16 gene may be helpful to early diagnosis for lung cancer.
