Abstract
Objective To investigate the incidence and the associated factors of fatty liver among the college staffs for the purpose of prophylaxis and treatment. Methods Fatty liver was diagnosed by ultrasonography. Height, weight, and blood pressure were measured by physical examination. Fasting blood glucose, serum lipid, and hepatic function test were performed by routine laboratory methods. Personal information was investigated through questionnaire. Results Of the 678 teachers and employees, fatty liver was diagnosed in 122 cases (17.99%). Significant differences of the incidence of fatty liver were found between the different sex and age groups. Higher incidence of fatty liver was found among the overweight, alcohol drinking and hyperlipemia groups. High triglyceride, high blood glucose, hypertension and abnormal hepatic function were more prevalent in fatty liver group than those in non-fatty liver group. Conclusion High incidence of fatty liver is found among the college staffs. The occurrence of fatty liver is associated with sex, age, alcohol drinking, overweight, and hyperlipemia.
