Abstract

The performance of an exhaust muffler of internal combustion engine is related not only to the construstion of itself, but also to the characters of the exhaust noise sourse. In this paper, the usual eahaust system consists of noise sourse, muffler tube and outside surrounding. This article calculates the reducing noise characters of the muffler, builds the mathematical model of the insertion loss of muffler on basis of the transfer matrix method, analysises the inside pressure loss of the muffler and the influence of the frequency characters on the muffler optimum design. The new optimization model is developed, which the demand of muffler design is met in. On this basis, authors use Borland C++ and Matclab to make the program of calculation and optimum design. The optimization model is verified to be practical.
