Abstract
Objective To investigate the dietary intake and nutrition status of urban residents in Zhejiang province. Methods A multiple-stage sampling method was applied to choose 11 cities from Zhejiang province based on economy levels, dietary habits and geography locations.4 949 residents over 2 years old were randomly selected for the evaluation of dietary nutrition intake in 2008.The dietary data were collected by 3-day 24-hour retrospective recall method and 3-day weighed intake methods. Results The urban residents had energy and protein intakes as 9 653.7kJ/person day and 84.9g/person day on average, respectively.Corns were the main diet and pork was the major source(75.5%) of high-grade protein intake. There had been a trend of increasing bean food intake since 2002(36.2g vs.33.8g/person day). There had also been a rapidly increase of fat intake since 2002(87.7g vs.63.4g/person day),which resulted in the higher proportion of fat energy(34.3%)supply than the upper limit of WHO recommendation(30.0%).The high intakes of plant oil(41.3g/person day) and salt(10.5g/person day) were observed for urban residents. The fruit and microelement(e.g.calcium and dietary fibers) intakes were below the recommended standard. The intake of milk and milk products was only 60.0g/person day. Conclusion The urban residents had good energy and protein intakes in Zhejiang province. However, there were tendencies of high-protein,high-salt and high-fat intakes,as well as the low intakes of certain nutriments.Public nutrition education and healthy life styles should be strongly advocated for the population.
