Abstract

Ice accumulation on transmission lines in extreme climatic events can result in severe damage to the lines and towers, with the possibility of being unable to restore the service quickly enough to preserve electricity supplies to customers.De-icing the transmission line is good method to prevent such a situation.Compared with AC-based de-icing method,DC-based deicers inject a high direct current into the transmission line to melt ice,and the capacity of DC deicer only depend on the DC resistance and length of the transmission line.Based on the calculation and analysis of the transmission line deicing parameters, the DC based de-icing technical scheme for the typical AC transmission lines in China Southern Power Grid is proposed. In addition, the defending and de-icing methods for the HVDC transmission and electrode lines are proposed.
