Abstract
The paper classifies Chinese cities into three regions and 18 sub-regions with explanations of the boundary and characteristics of each region and sub-region based on the three decisive factors affecting urban spatial characteristics,regional theories in natural,economic and cultural geography and urban development of cities in different regions.This is to illustrate the spatial structure of China's urban development and to provide a basic spatial framework for the further studies on Chinese cities.
