Abstract
Aquaporin-4(AQP-4),a water-channel protein,is highly expressed in the brain, mainly expressed in astrocytes and ependymal cells, especially in the astrocytes directly contacting with capillaries and cerebral piamater, which is an important element in the formation of brain edema and plays an important role in the rapid transmembrane transport.Recent investigations revealed that AQP-4 played an important role in brain edema during traumatic brain injury.Further research on the relation between AQP-4 and brain edema in traumatic brain injury may lead to new approaches for the treatment of brain edema.
