Abstract
Tapering is a progressive non-linear reduction of the training load during a variable period of time in an attempt to reduce the physiological and psychological stress of daily training and optimize sports performance. The progressive type of tapering include linear taper and exponential taper. The non-progressive type of tapering is step taper. The progressive tapering is better than non-progressive tapering. The fast decay is better than slow decay in the progressive type of tapering. Maintaining training intensity in order to avoid detraining is important. Reducing training volume by 41%-60% and reducing for 8 to 14 days' tapering is positive to most sports. A realistic improve ment from a taper is 3%(0.5%-6.0%),which is higher than CV can greatly improve the possibility of athlete's win ning. However,as one of the periodization, there are other forms of tapering need to explore and verify.
