Abstract

Song Lian(1310-1381) is not only an influential writer but a remarkable calligrapher during the late Yuan(1206-1368) and early Ming(1368-1644) dynasties.He is skillful and with admirable artistic accomplishments in various calligraphic styles.Moreover,he has some original insights into the theory of calligraphy,regarding the verve of calligraphy,the understanding of calligraphic techniques,and the development of expertise in calligraphy and understanding of the relationship between calligraphy and painting.
