Abstract

Objective To explore the clinical value of measurement of the serum content of HGF in malignant tumor patients. Methods Serum samples of malignant tumor patients(n=58) were examined for HGF content measurement by the quantitative EIA.Also serum HGF contents were measured in the control groups, which included 20 cases under going surgical procedure previously for malignant tumor but now being without tumor recurrence,12 cases of premalignant tumorous lesions and 18 healthy volunteers. Results The level of total HGF in malignant tumor group was significantly higher than those in other groups and the contents of HGF increased with tumor grade and stage increment. No significant differences of serum HGF contents was seen between the primary tumors and recurrent tumors. Conclusions The contents of total HGF in serum of malignant tumor patients was significantly increaed and closely related to the invasive behavior of the tumors.HGF may be a new useful tumor marker for screening and monitoring malignant tumor patients.
