Abstract

Objective To observe the characteristics of dexmedetomidine used in the middle and elderly patients undergoing gastrointestinal tract cancer surgery. Methods Fifty patients(aged 60-75 years,ASA Ⅱ or Ⅲ) scheduled for gastrointestinal tract cancer surgery were randomly divided into two groups.Anesthesia was induced with either dexmedetomidine(group D,n = 25) or propofol(group P,n =25),and then maintained with the same drug combined with sevoflurane inhalation.MAP and HR during anesthesia, awakening time, and adverse effects such as postoperative agitation and delirium, were recorded. Results Compared with pre-anesthesia,MAP in group P was significantly decreased before intubation and increased after intubation and extubation(P0.05),while MAP changes in group D were not significantly different;HR was decreased before induction in group D(P0.05),while increased before intubation and extubation in group P(P0.05).There were three patients in a state of agitation after operation in group P.Conclusion Elderly patients under dexmedetomidine-based anesthesia display decreased heart rate, stable blood pressure, prompt awakening, and few adverse effects during gastrointestinal tract cancer surgery.
