The Influence of Gender and Language Proficiency on Tolerance of Ambiguity

This paper uses questionnaire to investigate the correlation between gender and language proficiency and Tolerance of Ambiguity(TOA).The study finds out that male and female students are significantly different in the TOA,and that students with high language proficiency are more tolerant of ambiguity than those with low language proficiency.The paper argues that learning styles and learning strategies are two major influences affecting learners' TOA.It also suggests effective ways of properly increasing learners' TOA by students' appropriate learning strategies,knowledge of Ambiguity,and compensations for learning opportunities.
