Abstract
Changes in serum gastrin level in vagotomized rats were measured by radioim-munoassay and the effect of sympathectomy on it was examined. While pH andintragastric pressure remained steady, vagotomy resulted in a 6-fold rise in serumgastrin concentration. The serum gastrin level was significantly lower after vagotomyand spmpathectomy, as compared with the level after vagotomy, even though itwas still higher than the control level. Two months after vagotomy, sympathectomydecreased the enhanced serum gastrin concentration by about 42%. It is concludedthat sympathicus can stimulate the release of gastrin in vagotomized rats.
