Abstract
Objective To investigate the status of knowledge,attitude and practice (KAP) of dietary supplements among residents in Nanjing city,and to provide the basis for health education on dietary supplements. Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted among 509 residents selected with conveniene sampling from Nanjing City. Results The total awareness rate of dietary supplements was 60.3% for all investigated residents. The awareness rate of dietary supplements was increased with the educational level,and the participants with the educational level of college or above had higher awareness rate than the others (P0.05). The awareness rate of the participants between 25 and 35 years old was higher than those of other groups(P0.05). The awareness rate of female was higher than that of male (P0.05). 88.8% of the residents were interested in dietary concerns. 63.5% of them had taken dietary supplements,but only 20.6% took dietary supplements regularly. Along with the growth of age,the proportion of taking dietary supplements regularly was ascending,and the proportion of the participants over 45 years old was higher than that of the others(P0.05). The affection of age,educational level and family income was not significant. Conclusion The residents in Nanjing had low knowledge level about dietary supplements. The attitude of the residnets to acquire dietary supplements knowledge was active,but the practice to take dietary supplements was not popular and regular.
