Clinical significance of TP-ELISA test for blood transfusion

Objective: To explore features and clinical significance of syphilis enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method(TP-ELISA) as one of the first four tests required before blood transfusions.Methods:A total of 105 blood sample which were shown as TP-ELISA positive(including weak positive) were detected with Toluidine Red Unheated Serum Test(TRUST)、Treponema Pallidum Hemagglutination Assay(TPHA)、Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay(TP-ELISA) in parallel.Results:Out of the 105 blood samples of TP-ELISA positive,54 were positive according to TRUST,97 were positive according to TPHA,and 103 were positive according to TP-ELISA.Conclusion:TP-ELISA can be used for epidemiological investigation of syphilis,or preoperative,prenatal test for screening of syphilis,or required test before blood transfusion.For serum samples shown as TP-ELISA positive,TRUST and TPHA should be applied to exclude false results.
