He Yan's Studies on The Analects of Confucius

He Yan,an ancient Chinese scholar in the studies on The Analects of Confucius,compiled a collection of research findings made by the studies on that great Confucian canon,which is the oldest book of its kind we can find today.His major contributions to the studies on Confucius's Analects include the following two major aspects: one is his collection of other scholars' research findings on The Analects of Confucius;the other is the explanations and notations for the canon provided by He himself.He Yan's studies embodied what the scholars in the Six Dynasties inherited from the Confucian scholars in the Han Dynasty and what they contributed themselves and suggested how the Mid-ancient academic mentality made its transformations,thus having a significant position and influence in the ancient Chinese academic history and in the history of studies on The Analects of Confucius in particular.
