Abstract

Objective To study the relationship of epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) with clinicopathological features and prognosis of esophageal cancer. Methods The immunohistochemistry method was used to test the expression of EGFR in 89 cases of esophageal normal tissue,26 cases of esophageal dysplasia tissue degree Ⅰ,17 cases of esophageal dysplasia tissue degree Ⅱ/Ⅲ and 92 cases of esophageal cancer tissue. The testing results were analyzed and compared with the clinicopathological features and prognosis. Results Overexpression rate of EGFR was 0(0/89),19.23%(5/26),58.82%(10/17) and 69.57%(64/92) in normal tissue, dysplasia degrees I group, dysplasia degrees Ⅱ/Ⅲ group and esophageal cancer group respectively, which showed significant differences between each two groups(P0.05).The overexpression of EGFR in esophageal cancer tissues showed significant differences in different infiltration depths and between patients with and without lymph node metastasis(P0.05).There was a significant difference in survival curves between the patients with positive and negative overexpression of EGFR(P0.05).Conclusion The overexpression of EGFR is closely correlated with the occurrence, development and prognosis of esophageal cancer.
