Abstract

To study the therapeutic effect of chemotherapy with carboplatin and floxuridine combined with radiotherapy for advanced esophageal carcinoma. Two hundred and thirty-two patients with advanced esophageal carcinoma were randomized into radiotherapy plus chemotherapy group(C+R,116patients)and radiotherapy alone group(R,116patients). 60 Coγ-ray was used for all patients with a total dose of60Gy~70Gy.Chemotherapy(carboplatin plus floxuridine)was given in the first and4th week of radiotherapy in R+C group. Both groups were followed for five years.The1-,3-and5-year survival rates were73.3%,32.8%,19.8%in R+C group and55.2%,17.2%,7.8%in R group, respectively. The survival rate in R+C group were higher than that in R group(P0.01),without serious side effect in R+C group. There had no diffierence in uncontrol or relapse rate between two groups(P0.05),distant metastasis rate in R+C group was much lower than that in R group(P0.05).[Conclusion]Chemotherapy with carboplatin and floxuridine combined with radiotherapy for advanced esophageal carcinoma could improve long term survival rate and short term response of patients.
