Abstract

Film-furrow irrigation is designed for summer maize irrigation and tested for its growth, yield and water use efficiency. The results show that film-furrow irrigation,on some degree, could reduce the soil evaporation and promote the early growth of summer maize. The time of leaves covering the ground under film-furrow irrigation is early than that under common furrow irrigation. The leaf area climax moves forward and has a long stationary phase.Film-furrow irrigation can reduce water consumption;meanwhile, the water use efficiency can be increased about 18% with no significant difference of yield.Comprehensively considering the factors of yield, water use efficiency, plant height, ear length and 100 grains weight,it can be concluded that film-furrow irrigation is superior than common furrow irrigation.
