A Case of Giant Epidermal Cyst Occurring on Buttock

Epidermal cyst is the common benign tumor of the skin, usually appearing in hairy region but rarely occurs on non hair bearing areas such as palms and soles after traumatic injury. It seldom reaches a size of more than 5 cm in diameter. Its occurrence is due to inflammation of the pilosebaceous units and proliferation of epidermal cells within the dermis. Occasionally due to deep implantation of epidermal cells in the course of blunt penetrating injury or previous surgery, an epidermal cyst can occur. A 29-year-old male was presented with a 5.52cm sized skin colored palpable mass on the left buttock. The mass was excised for an exact diagnosis and treatment and its size measured 7.56.55cm. Histopathological finding shows the cyst is lined by true epidermis composed of several layers of stratified squamous epithelium and granular layer and it contains keratinous material arranged in laminated layers. Herein we report a case of giant epidermal cyst occurring on the buttock.
