This essay briefly expounded the actuality and si gn ificance for protecting the ancient city wall in China and put forward the princ iple and measure of protected city wall. This essay also introduced the currentl y protecting situation for those historical and cultural famous cities, such as Nanjing, Xi'an, Kaifeng and Pingyao.
