Abstract
A new banana line W-07 with uniform fingers and shorter growing period was selected from the in vitro propagated progenies of banana line 8818. The main morphological characteristics of the W-07 include medium-short stalk (231 cm in height), moderate pseudostem thickness (70.2 cm in diameter), fast vegetative growth, and dark green elliptical leaves with leaf length to width ratio of 2.05. The W-07 yielded high: bunches 80.6 cm long, 24.42 kg/bunch; hands 6-8 hands/bunch, 4.0 kg/hand; fingers 130.2 fingers/bunch, 20.3 cm in length and 180 g/finger. The whole growth stage for the line W-07 planting in spring is 317 days, and this line is hence suitable for planting in Hainan Island.
