A New Species of the Genus Balocerus (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Idiocerinae) from China

Abstract

This paper deals with a new species of the genus Balocerus. The type specimens are deposited in the Institute of Entomology, Guizhou University.Balocerus bimaculatus Zhang et Li, sp. nov. (Figs. 1~9) Body length (incl. tegm.): ♂4.5 mm, ♀5.0 mm. This species is similar to Balocerus chinensis Freytag Morrison in appearance, but can be distinguished from the latter by the following characteristics: 1) crown with two yellowish spots; 2) the body larger; 3) dorsal arm of style poined apex with large serrate ventral margin; 4) apex of dorsal apodeme of aedeagus arrow-like; 5) shapes of aedeagus processes distincty different. Holotype: ♂, Paratype: 1♀, Wuzhi Mountain (1867 m), Hainan Province, 20- Ⅴ-1997 coll. YANG Mao-fa.
