Preparation of PA66/HDPE Alloy by One-Step Reactive Blending

Abstract

PA66/HDPE alloys were prepared by a so called one-step reactive blending in a twin screw extruder. The morphology of the alloys was studied using SEM and Molau test. The mechanical properties of the PA66/HDPE alloys under dry and/or wet conditions were also compared with those of PA66/HDPE blends that were prepared through a simple blending of PA66 and HDPE and/or a so called two-step reactive process. The results showed that the alloys prepared through the one step reactive extrusion simply by putting PA66, HDPE, maleic anhydride, and peroxide initiator into a twin screw extruder possessed similar morphology and mechanical properties to the alloys made through the two-step reactive process. Tougheness of the alloys was improved greatly.
