Analysis on the Epidemiological Characteristics and Relative Factors of Adult Overweight and Obesity in Liaoning Province

Objective To describe the epidemiological characteristics and relative factors of adults with overweight and obesity in Liaoning province.Methods With multi-stage randomized cluster sampling,8 120 cases were selected from the 540 families in seven urban and suburb districts of Liaoning province.data of overweight and obesity history and social- economic status for residents aged 18 yrs and over were investigated by face-to-face interview,weight and height of these subjects were measured.Result the overweight rate was 33.9%,the obesity rate was 13.7%.The prevalent rates of overweight and obesity were increased with the age and it was higher in city than in rural and in female than in male(all P0.01).The overweight rate in 40 ～49 yrs and the obesity rate in 60～69 yrs reached their peak values.The relative risk factors were screened by Logistic regression analysis.The major relative risk factors for overweight and obesity were income(OR=1.18, 95%CI:1.13～1.23 for overweight;OR=1.08,95%CI:1.00～1.16 for obesity),physical activity(0.85,0.80～0.90;0.72,0.64～ 0.82),smoke(0.67,0.60～0.75;0.69,0.53～0.91)and age(1.15,1.12～1.19;1.11,1.04～1.18).Conclusions The results indicated it allowed no optimism for the status and developing trend of adult overweight and obesity in Liaoning Province,the rates of adult overweight and obesity were higher than those of all over the country.Many factors were related to adult overweight and obesity.Intervention should be taken to change this situation as soon as possible.
