Abstract

AIM:To investigate the change of Apaf-1 expression and its effect on the neuron apoptosis in CA1 area of hippocampus after diffuse axonal injury in rats. METHODS: The models of severe closed brain injury were made by Marmarou method. The expression of Apaf-1 was detected by using immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: The expression of Apaf-1 began to increase 3 h after injury and reached the peak at 6 h, then remained at a high level at 12 h, and finally declined at 24 h, but was still higher than the normal. CONCLUSION: Apaf-1 might be associated with pathological changes of CA1 area of hippocampus after diffuse brain injury in rats.
