Abstract

The ideology of Dong Zhongshu has many aspects.The understanding of him requires not only the knowledge of his sayings and his works,but also that of the historical background of the society he lived in.The sayings of an ideologist are not necessarily true;some of Dong Zhongshu’s ideas may seem fatuous and absurd today,but they were comparatively rational during Western Han Dynasty 2000 years ago.Finding Dong Zhongshu’s hidden values beyond the texts about him through comprehensive study of him in his position is one of the efforts we should make.
