Abstract

The earthworm is considered as a suitable biomonitor animal to determine the ecological hazard of polluted soil. When exposed to pollutants, earthworms can be changed obviously on the level of molecular, cell and physiology. That may affect the survival, growth and reproductive capacity of earthworms, and change population finally.Based on the summary of previous studies, the toxicological effects of heavy metal, pesticide, veterinary drugs and additives on earthworms were reviewed from microcosmic, individual and ecological levels, and the future research directions were discussed.
