A TAXONOMIC STUDY ON THE GENUS VIRIDOMARUS DISTANT(HEMIPTERA,CICADELLIDAE,EUSCELINAE)

In the present paper,the genus Viridomarus Distant,1918(Hemiptera,Cicadellidae,Euscelinae)is redescribed,and two new species Viridomarus brevialatus sp.nov.and Viridomarus laticellus sp.nov.are described and illustrated from Hainan Province,China.A key is given to distinguish all species of the genus.The type specimens of the new species are deposited in the Institute of Zoology,Chinese Academy of Sciences(IZCAS)and Institute of Entomology,Guizhou University(IEGU).Viridomarus Distant,1918Male genitalia.Pygofer side with some macrosetae in the outer margin and ventro-laterally margin with 1 short tuber.Valve,subtriangular.Subgenital plate with some macrosetae in lateral margin.Style twisted apical process,apical half narrow.Connective Y-shaped.Aedeagus basal expanded,aedeagal shaft slightly curved,slim and long.1 Viridomarus capitatus Distant(Figs.1-7,22)Body length:♂ 2.8-2.9 mm;♀ 4.9 mm.Body length(including tegmen):♂ 3.1-3.3 mm;♀ 3.8 mm.Male genitalia.Pygofer very elongate,narrowing to apex,a lot of spinules in the apex,its outer margin with a few macrosetae and ventro-laterally margin with 1 short tuber,the dorsocaudal area with a prominence.Valve,subtriangular.Subgenital plate parallelogram-like,with 5 macrosetae.Style twisted apical process,with basal half wider and narrowing to the middle,apical half narrow,end of style with small teeth.Connective Y-shaped,shaft bifurcate,its stem length is shorter than arms.Aedeagus basal expanded,aedeagal shaft slightly curved,slim and long.Material examined.2♂♂,1♀,Datian(19°25'N,108°35'E;alt.100 m),Dongfang City,Hainan Prov.,China,9 July 2007,coll.by XING Ji-Chun(IEGU).Distribution.India,China(Hainan).2 Viridomarus brevialatus sp.nov.(Figs.8-14,23)Body length:♂ 3.9 mm;♀ 5.0 mm.Body length(including tegmen):♂ 3.2 mm;♀ 3.6 mm.This species is similar to Viridomarus capitatus Distant in appearance,but can be distinguished by the color pattern is much more deeper,male forewings shorter,without extending to the abdominal apex,the apical area of pygofer side without a prominence,and the aedeagus characters different.Holotype ♂,Datian(19°25'N,108°35'E;alt.100 m),Dongfang City,Hainan Prov.,China,9 July 2007,coll.by XING Ji-Chun(IZCAS).Paratype 1♀,same data as holotype(IEGU).Etymology.The species named after the Latin words brevi- and alatus,it refers the male forewings shorter.3 Viridomarus laticellus sp.nov.(Figs.15-21,24)Body length:♂ 3.9-4.0 mm;♀ 4.2-4.5 mm.Body length(including tegmen):♂ 4.0-4.1 mm;♀ 4.0-4.2 mm.This species is similar to Viridomarus capitatus Distant in appearance and color pattern,but can be distinguished by the male forewings elongate,the apical cells broad,the apical area of pygofer side without a prominence,and the aedeagus characters different.However it differs from Viridomarus brevialatus sp.nov.in having the male forewings elongate,exceed the end of abdomen,the apical cells broad,and the aedeagus characters different.Holotype ♂,Datian(19°25'N,108°35'E;alt.100 m),Dongfang City,Hainan Prov.China,9 July 2007,coll.by XING Ji-Chun(IZCAS).Paratypes:1♂2♀♀,same data as holotype(IEGU);1♀,Jianfengling(18°41'N,108°47'E;alt.1 000 m),Ledong County,Hainan Prov.,11 July 2007,coll.by ZHANG Bin(IEGU).Etymology.From lati-,cellus,the specific name refers the apical cells of forewings broad.
