Abstract

In recent years the Hutt Street Centre has identified that there an increasing number of clients and their families who have been in crisis and that the quickest way back into stable housing is through the private rental market. This market is competitive and can be overwhelming and difficult for our clients to access as there is significant knowledge required to search and apply for rental properties. This can include knowing where to look and how to maximise the chances of winning a property with supporting materials like cover letters as well as knowing how to present one's self at open inspections. Consequently, the Hutt Street Centre found that their case management team was spending increasing amounts of time supporting clients to navigate the private rental search and application processes.
