Focuses in New-Century Studies of American Literature in China

The frequencies of the appearance of different schools,writers,works and literary genres in American literature in Chinese academic circle show that the new-century Chinese study of American literature has focused on 19th century American Romantic literature,modern American literature and contemporary multi-ethnic American literature among different schools,on modern white American literature,black American literature and Chinese American literature among multi-ethnic American literatures,on Morrison,Faulkner,Hemingway,Hawthorne,Fitzgerald,Walker and Maxine Hong Kingston among different writers,on The Scarlet Letter,Beloved,The Great Gatsby,Color Purple,The Catcher in the Rye,The Old Man and the Sea,and The Woman Warrior among different works,and on modern white American fiction,black American fiction and Chinese American fiction among different literary genres.The focuses suggest that Chinese scholars and critics have a strong complex for American classics,for the Nobel Prize-winning writers,and for the novel,which accounts for many repeated studies and the critical division of American writers and works into the mainstream and the marginal,to which Chinese critical circle should pay attention.
