Abstract
This paper analyzes the distribution of the green space in Nantong City by using the images of CBERS-2B on June 29,2008.A typical sample of Haodong green space is selected to study the diversity of species. Some measuring indexes such as the richness, diversity and evenness of species calculated by Margalef index,Shannon-Wiener index and Pielou index are used to identify the diversity of species in the sample green space. The results show the unbalanced distribution of Nantong urban green space. The majority of the green space is located in the northeast and south-east of Nantong City while less is distributed in the urban center.Trees and shrubs have a high diversity while herbs have a low biodiversity. Some sustainable suggestions are proposed to better realize the rational distribution and optimize the struc-ture of the green space
