Abstract

To provide reference for the optimization design of an Armor-Piercing High-Explosive(APHE)projectile,the processes of a small caliber APHE projectile penetrating homogeneous steel target plate in different thickness with different impact angles and different impact velocities are simulated by ANSYS /LS-DYNA. The change rule of projectile velocity in the process of penetrating target plate, and the projectile figure, remaining velocity and residual kinetic energy after penetrating target plate are obtained. The simulation results show that the projectile penetration performance can be increased through optimization design on projectile body nose shape and size, and the residual kinetic energy of projectile is increased by 5. 3% after penetrating target plate if the projectile body nose is truncated cone;the projectile body nose shape has impact on penetration strength, and the worst is pointed cone and the best is truncated cone; as the impact angle increases, the residual kinetic energy of projectile is smaller and smaller, and the projectile would ricochet when the impact angle is increased to 65°.
