Abstract
Objective To investigate the anti-depression effect of Ginkgo biloba extract 50(GBE50) by observing its effect on behavioristics and detecting serum corticosterone level in rats. Methods The models were established by chronic unpredictable stress.Sixty male SD rats were randomly divided into six groups: control group, model group,Fluoxetine group and GBE50 groups(large, medium and small dose). After oral administration for 21 days, the serum corticosterone level was detected by forced swim test. Results Compared with normal control group, struggling time in model group was significantly decreased(P 0.01),while immobility time in model group was increased(P 0.01);compared with model group, struggling time was obviously increased in GBE50 large and medium dose groups(P 0.01),and immobility time was obviously shortened in Fluoxetine group and GBE50 large and medium dose groups(P 0.01).The serum corticosterone level in model group was significantly higher than that of the control group(P 0.01);while the levels in Fluoextine group,GBE50 large and medium groups were significantly reduced than that of the model group(P 0.01).Conclusion GBE50 can relieve the depressed-like behavior in model rats. The results suggest that GBE50 has positive effects on depression.
