Abstract

The Story of An Hour is an excellent short story by Kate Chopin. This paper, from the perspective of Freud's psychological analysis, tries to analyze the psychological process during which the heroine's powerless Ego led to her death in the struggle between Id and Superego.A Respectable Woman, another short story written in the same year as The Story of An Hour by Kate Chopin, was also quoted to demonstrate that Mrs.Mallard's tragedy is the imbalance among Id,Ego and Superego.
