The application of silicone oil in the treatment of complicated retinal detachments

Abstract

Objective:To inquire into usage of silicone oil in the treatment of complicated retinal detachments. Methods:To analysing retrospectively 32 eyes of 28 patients of complicated retinal detachment receiving vitrectomy and silicone oil injection from Jan.1999 to Dec.2000. Results:After the surgical intervention,complete reattachment were found in 27 eyes(84.3%),partially reattached in 3 eyes (9.4%),and only 2 eyes failed (6.3%).Visual acuity was improved in 18 patients,unchange in 6 patients and lower in 8 eyes. Conclusions:Vitrectomy and silicone oil tamponade improving the curative effect of complicatefd retinal detachment.
