Abstract
This paper deals with the megasporogensis, the development of female gametophyte of Manglietia insignis ,a endangered species in China. The ovule of M.insignis is anatropous, bitegmic and crassinucellate. The obturator was observed. The chalazal functional megaspore develops into a Polygonum type of embryo sac.The degeneration of egg cells was observed, and the abortion rate of ovules was about 79.1%.This was considered as a main factor responsible for the low seed set of cultivated Manglietia insignis .
