Rhetorical Effects of Indirect Antithesis in English

Abstract

A special way of antithesis, indirect antithesis, has some sameness with antithesis in its general sense, but also some differences. Books and papers about antithesis are many, but I have found no book which has said any thing about indirect antithesis. The definition of indirect antithesis, its usual way of expression and its rhetorical effects : contrast, humor, emphasis and variety ...are things discussed in this paper.
