Abstract

To study the influence of soil mass strength parameters on tunnels with side slopes,a two-dimensional plane strain model was established by using the finite element software ABAQUS. The effects of different cohesion and internal friction angles on the tunnel were analysed. The results showed that as the value of the cohesion and internal friction angle became smaller,slope excavation would lead to a larger displacement; when they increased to a certain extent,the increasing amount of maximum slope displacement would reduce to a reasonable limit; when the two continued to increase,the results had no significant change,i. e.,obvious disturbance to the tunnel did not occur. Therefore,the soil mass strength parameters are the main factors affecting the reliability of the tunnels with side slopes.
