Abstract

Hexahydrated ferric chloride is a lewis acid. It is a catalyst and oxidant in organic synthesis. Application of hyxahydrated ferric chloride in esterification, ketalation, etherification, oxidation and molecular rearrangement is described. The reaction mechanism is explained.
