Abstract
Objective To assese the efficacy of recombinant human growth hormone(rhGH) in promoting the growth in children with Turner syndrome. Methods 12 children with Turner syndrome were treated with subcutaneous injection of rhGH(0.15 IU/kg) daily before sleep for 12 months. The average chronological age(CA) of these children(12.0±2.2)y,(9.5~16.7)years.The average bone age(BA) was(9.5±2.1)y,(7.8-13)y.Results The growth velocity of these children increased from 4cm to(6.8±1.2)cm after 6 months treatment, and to(6.5±1.7)cm after 12 months treatment. The predict height of these children was from(143±6.0)cm to(149±4.0)cm after 6 months,and(149±3.0)cm after 12 months. There were significant diference in the growth velocity and in the predict height before and after treatment(P0.05).There were no change in the mean body weight and BA during the whole course of rhGH therapy. Conclusion rhGH appears to be an effective and safe drug in promoting the growth in children with Turner syndrome.
