Abstract
The Vietnamese in American Vietnam War literature is generally stupid, dirty, lazy, slavish and ungrateful. The Americans emphasize the naturalness of the differences between them and the Vietnamese, whose different biological features have predetermined their respective qualities. The physical features of the Vietnamese manifest their inferiority. The stereotypes of the Vietnamese fully reflect the self and ideology of the Americans. On the one hand, the Americans consider themselves as masters, trying hard to depreciate the Vietnamese and deny their status as a subject with independent consciousness;on the other hand, when the Americans gaze at the Vietnamese with an Oriental eye,the Vietnamese in their eye accords with their ideology.
