Research of the Relationship Between the Achievement Goal Orientation and the Class Motivation Climate & the Academic Performance

Abstract

Questionnaire method has been applied in this research on the 348 students of the 7th grade and 11th grade in two middle schools in order to explore the relations between achievement goal orientation and motivation climate as well as academic performance.The findings indicate that:(1) The correlation between mastery motivation climate and mastery goal as well as performance approach goal is significant.Performance motivation climate associates with performance approach goal and performance avoidance goal.(2) While mastery goal and performance approach goal can enhance students'achievement,performance avoidance goal forms an obstacle to good achievement.(3)Motivation climate and achievement goal orientation differ significantly in grade and sex.(4)Vocational school and senior middle school differ greatly in Performance motivation climate and performance avoidance goal.
