Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinical efficiency of percutaneous vertebroplasty(PVP)for patients with refractory low back pain caused by vertebral hemangioma,and to summarize the clinical experience.Methods 21 vertebral hemangioma patients with refractory low back pain who were treated from August 2009 until July 2011 underwent PVR.Their average age was 46.All patients were confirmed through radiological examinations.All contraindications were ruled out.Results PVP were successfully performed on the affected intevertebral bodies in these 21 patients.All patients were followed up for 12 months.The treatment effective rate was 95% in six months after surgery,and the rate was 84% in twelve months.Postoperative X-ray and CT scan indicated that the bone cement filling was uniformly distributed body.There was no neurological impairment,bone cement allergy or embolism in these patients.Conclusions Percutaneous vertebroplasty can significantly relieve intractable low back pain caused by vertebral hemangioma.It is a safe and effective minimal invasive procedure.
