Abstract

Objective:To study the effect of Chinese medicine retention enema on intestine function and IL-6 of peritonitis postoperation. And also to seek a good curative, safe and reliable therapy for peritonitis postoperation in intestine function recovery.Methods:108 patients with retention enema from June 2011 to June 2013 in our hospital were divided into two groups randomly. And each group had 54 cases. Two groups' patients were given conventional Western medicine. On the basis, the observation group after 6 hours was given TCM retention enema. We observed postoperative recovery time and the number of bowel sounds, flatus, defecation and tested the serum IL-6 levels 2,5,7,14 d after operation and 4 h after the enema. Results:The patients returned to normal bowel sounds, first exhaust, defecation, hospitalization time was(5.7 ± 1.3) h,(4.6 ± 3.4) h,(12.2 ± 4.8) h and(6.2 ± 2.8) d,significantly shorter than those of the control group(12.7 ± 4.3) h,(13.1 ± 3.9) h,(25.2 ± 5.2) h and(14.3 ± 3.7) d.Compared the two groups, the difference was significant,P 0.05.Observation group's recovery time after surgery was significantly shorter than that of the control group and the difference was statistically significant,P 0.05.Before surgery serum IL-6 levels in two groups had no statistical significance,P 0.05.2,5,7,14 d after surgery,IL-6 levels were significantly decreased compared with that before operation and the difference was statistically significant and the observation group was significantly better than the control group on postoperative 2,5,7 d decline,P 0.05.14d later, the two groups were essentially flat. Conclusions:Retention enema with Chinese medicine can promote the recovery of gastrointestinal function after surgery, reduce the release of inflammatory cytokines and decrease serum IL-6 levels, thereby reducing the body's inflammatory response.
