Water resources development and utilization in Heihe River Basin

An analysis is made on the volume, composition, distribution, and characteristics of water resources of the Heihe River Basin and the present situation of their development and utilization. Some problems are pointed out in the development and utilization of the water resources of the river basin, including excessive diversion inlets and plain reservoirs, poor channel distribution and corollary engineering facilities, low level of development and utilization of groundwater resources, low efficient water utilization in some places, serious evaporation and seepage losses of water resources, and lack of key water resources control and regulation projects, and these problems aggravate the deterioration of the ecological environment of the Heihe River Basin. Finally, it is proposed that only the scientific allocation and efficient utilization of water resources can promote the coordinate development of the local economy, society, and environment of the Heihe River Basin.
