Establishment of long-term mechanism of voluntary blood donation

Ever since the implementation of Blood Donation Law in China on October 1st,1998,the careers involved in voluntary blood donation have witnessed a rapid development. However,the existing blood donation system is still quite vulnerable,and blood donation work still confronts many challenges and problems. With the improvement of medical and health technology,the gradual perfection of the medical security system and the expansion of medical institutions,clinical blood usage has experienced a growth spurt. In 1998,the total amount of blood collection was less than 1,000 tons nationwide,and in 2011,the amount reached over 4,000 tons. Blood crisis has been commonplace in some areas,and the tension of blood supply has become more regular. It is,thus,necessary to establish a long-term mechanism of voluntary blood donation and to build sustainable development of the career in blood donation in order to address the need in blood usage. In this paper,we discussed the measures and strategies of establishing the long-term mechanism of voluntary blood donation on six aspects,for instance,allowing the government to take control and striving for policy support,strengthening advertisement and raising public awareness,improving network and information-oriented construction of blood collection and supply on a continuous basis,building a stable group of fixed blood donors and volunteers,increasing the proportion of group blood donation,and perfecting donor-recalling system. By continuously enriching and perfecting the local operation model of the long-term mechanism of volunteer blood donation from developmental perspectives,sustainability in blood donation work can be achieved in a sound manner.
