Abstract

Xu Qi's prose searches for self : self of the writer and self of the prose. The writer looking for the ultimate significance of life in enjoying and regressing the nature, life is distillated from worldly affairs. Xu Qi's prose style is composed of the aesthetic interest of scholar, affection for poem and traditional Chinese painting, preciseness of article structure, and elegant style of writing. In his biographic prose, the concise writing describes the tremendous change of the fate of characters, which involves a desolate artistic conception of life.
