Abstract

Objective To study the diagnostic and prognostic values of C - reactive protein and lactate dehydrogenase in acute pancreatitis. Methods 121 patients with acute pancreatitis were divided into two groups depending on the severity(mild acute pancreatitis, MAP,and severe acute pancreatitis,SAP) and furthermore two groups according to its pathogeneses(biliary pancreatitis,BP and non -biliary pancreatitis,NBP).Blood samples were collected on days 1,2,3 and 5.Amylase,lipidase,CRP and LDH were monitored. The diagnostic sensitivity, specificity and accurate diagnostic index were also observed. Results Serum amylase and lipase levels were similar in all groups. But the levels of serum CRP and LDH were higher in SAP than those in MAP(P0.05).Furthermore, in SAP group, the level of LDH was higher in biliary pancreatitis than that in non -biliary pancreatitis. The diagnostic sensitivity of CRP was 75.6%,specificity 96.0%,CDI 0.803;for LDH,they were 75.6%,92.5%,and 0.681,respectively.Conclusions CRP and LDH can be considered as a simple and useful index in the evaluation of the severity of acute pancreatitis.Further investigation would be necessary.
