Abstract

Objective To analyze the relationship between serum CRP and carotid atherosclerosis in the high blood cholesterol patients. Methods Carotid intima-media thickness(IMT) was determined by ultrasound, serum CRP by immunology in 120 hyperlipidemia patients(study group) and 120 healthy subjects(control group). The relationship of ultrasound results to serum CRP was analyzed. Results The levels of total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C) and CRP were significantly higher in study group than in control(P0.05),but high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C) lower(P0.01).Serum CRP levels were higher in groups thickened IMT and plaque than in normal IMT group(P0.05).Conclusion CRP level is related to severity of carotid artery atherosclerosis, suggesting that CRP combined with serum LDL-C is a predictive indicator for cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, regulation of blood lipids and lowering of serum CRP level are important measures for prevention and treatment of hyperlipidemia.
